Designer’s Notes
This Fox & Chave silk tie features a repeating zebra motif set against a soft powder-blue background.
The design is inspired by a historic painting by the renowned Mughal court artist Ustad Mansur. The artwork depicts a zebra gifted to Emperor Jahangir (1569–1627) by Mir Ja’far, who had obtained the animal from Turks traveling through Ethiopia. Jahangir himself amusingly described the creature in the painting as a “mule.”
The zebra was first presented to Jahangir during the Persian New Year festival, Nowruz, in 1621. Once the emperor was convinced it was not merely a horse with painted stripes, he sent it as a diplomatic gift to Shah Abbas of Iran, with whom he frequently exchanged rare and exotic treasures.
This particular tie has become a favourite of King Charles III, who has been photographed wearing it on official engagements and international tours.
Styling
A Fox & Chave silk tie is best suited to a classic Windsor or half-Windsor knot and pairs well with a variety of collar shapes. For optimal display of the tie’s detailed pattern, a cutaway or spread collar is recommended.
