Designer’s Notes

This Fox & Chave silk tie features the celebrated Strawberry Thief repeat pattern, one of William Morris’s most iconic textile designs. This particular version is presented in a cool blue colour palette.

Morris found inspiration for the motif at his Oxfordshire home, Kelmscott Manor, where he observed thrushes stealing strawberries from his kitchen garden. The complex printing process required to produce the design meant that when it was finally released in 1881—after several earlier attempts—it became one of the most intricate and costly patterns offered by the Morris Company.
